Marlyne Nayokah Barrett (nee Affleck), born on 13 September 1978 in Brooklyn, New York City, New York, USA, is an American actress and producer. She has a recurring role as politician Nerese Campbell in The Wire. She is also known for her roles in the films Heist (2001) and Night Call (2017). She has been married to Gavin Barrett since 15 May 2009. They have twin sons Johuah Jireh Barrett and Ahnne-N'urya Barrett born in October 2021.

She played attorney Felicia Marquand in the FX series Damages in 2007.

Since appearing in The Wire she has gone on to star in the Dick Wolf created Chicago series as Senior Emergency Room Nurse Maggie Lockwood, appearing in Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. as a guest star and starring in Chicago Med.

Biography[]

Marlyne had a small role in the crime film Heist in 2001. The film was written and directed by David Mamet.

She had a guest starring role in the series The Jury in 2004. She played a character named Faith Ward in the show. The series was created by Tom Fontana, James Yoshimura and Barry Levinson who all worked with The Wire co-creator David Simon on the earlier series Homicide: Life on the Street.

Affleck had her first guest role in Law & Order in 2005. She guest starred in the fifteenth season episode "Obsession" as Alma Sinclair. She also had a guest role in Law & Order: Trial by Jury in 2005. She played Diane Harris in the first season episode "Pattern of Conduct". She also had a recurring role in the FX drama series Rescue Me in 2005. She played the mother of a boy in a coma in two episodes of the second season. She also appeared had a guest starring role in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit in 2005. She appeared as Sarah Miller in the sixth season episode "Night".

She had a role in the film Off The Black (2006). She returned to Law & Order: SVU in 2006. She played Alma Cordoza in the eighth season episode "Cage". She also had a guest role in the legal drama Conviction in 2006. She played Dr Donner in the first season episode "Madness".

She first appeared in The Wire as Nerese Campbell in the fourth season in 2006.

She was cast in a recurring role in the FX legal drama series Damages in 2007. She appeared in eight episodes of the show's first season as Felicia Marquand. She returned to Law & Order as a guest star in 2007. She played Defence Attorney Bocanegra in the seventeenth season episode "Murder Book".

She also appeared in a further Law & Order episode in 2008. She reprised her role as Defence Attorney Bocanegra in the eighteenth season episode "Tango". She returned to her role in The Wire for the fifth and final season in 2008.

In 2009, Barrett co-starred as Thomasina, the efficient palace secretary and aide-de-camp, on the short-lived NBC drama Kings. She also appeared in the pilot episode of the HBO comedy series Bored to Death in 2009. She also had a guest starring role in The Good Wife in 2009. She played Thalia Ramsey in the first season episode "Lifeguard".

She had a guest starring role in Gossip Girl in 2010. She played Martha Chamberlain in the fourth season episode "Goodbye, Columbia".

In 2015, Barrett returned to television appearing as Det. Chris Thompson in the first two episodes of the ABC crime drama American Crime. Later that year, she was cast as Nurse Maggie Lockwood in the NBC medical drama Chicago Med. She was credited in the recurring cast in the first thirteen episodes and was added to the main cast in the fourteenth episode. She has continued to star in the series throughout its run. Her character has also made multiple appearances in the related NBC dramas Chicago Fire and Chicago PD.
