Ernest Dickerson, born June 25, 1951 in Newark, New Jersey, USA, is a motion picture director and cinematographer. He is an episodic director for The Wire. He joined the crew as a director for the second season in 2003, helming the episode "Bad Dreams". He returned as a director for the third season in 2004, helming the episode "Hamsterdam" and the season finale "Mission Accomplished". He returned for the fourth season in 2006 and directed the episodes "Misgivings" and the season finale "Final Grades". He also directed the episode "Unconfirmed Reports" for the fifth and final season in 2018. He has also worked with The Wire creator David Simon on his subsequent series Treme and The Deuce. He has worked with The Wire and Treme writer and producer Eric Overmyer on the series Bosch. Dickerson has directed the films Juice (1992), Surviving the Game (1994), Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight (1995), and Bulletproof (1996). He has worked as a cinematographer, particularly with the director Spike Lee. He has directed multiple episodes of The Walking Dead, ER, and Dexter.
