Deirdre Kresson was a homicide victim investigated by the Barksdale detail in 2002.

Biography[]

Background[]

Kresson was friends with Tywanda before Kresson's murder. When the case was first investigated Tywanda told Detective Keely that she was on the phone with Kresson on the night of her murder and that someone called "D" visited her. Cole does not follow-up on the lead initially. McNulty contacts Tywanda and visits her and she explains that Kresson was expecting a package of cocaine that night. Tywanda reveals that Kresson was a disgruntled girlfriend of Avon Barksdale, and her jealousy of his other romantic partners drove her to threaten Barksdale with revealing his criminal enterprise to the authorities. Tywanda's information helps the detectives to solve the case and they learn that Kresson was murdered by Roland Brice while she was distracted by D'Angelo Barksdale with a package of cocaine: while D'Angelo talked to her from her front door, Brice shot her through her kitchen window.

Her autopsy was performed by Randall Frazier. ("Old Cases")

Season 1[]

After Detectives McNulty and Moreland review the case they re-investigate the crime scene and find several details the original investigators missed, most importantly a bullet lodged in the refrigerator door and shell casing outside. ("Old Cases")

Post-Death[]

Brice is later sentenced to life in prison for multiple murders, D'Angelo is convicted of drug trafficking on an unrelated incident, and Avon is convicted on drug conspiracy charges. ("Sentencing")
