Clockers is a 1995 film directed by Spike Lee and adapted by Lee and Richard Price from Price's book of the same name. The film stars Mekhi Phifer in his first role. The movie was filmed in Gowanus Projects in Brooklyn, New York.

Plot summary[]

Rodney a drug boss (Delroy Lindo) tells Strike (Mekhi Phifer), a clocker (slang for a low-level drug dealer) that Darryl Adams (Steve White), is stealing from him. Rodney tells Strike that Darryl "got to be got", not really being clear if he wants Strike to kill him. Strike then meets his brother, Victor Dunham (Isaiah Washington).

Soon after homicide detectives Rocco Klein (Harvey Keitel) and Larry Mazilli (John Turturro), attend the scene of a murder. The victim is Darryl Adams.

Larry and Rocco pick up Victor at church to question him for the murder. In the interrogation room, Victor tells Rocco that he was the one that shot Darryl in self-defense. Rocco doesn't believe it because, unlike his brother Strike, Victor does not have a criminal record. Complications with the investigation ensue as Rocco tries to piece together what had really happened by going to the projects. Strike, considers leaving the gang life but does not know how to escape from Rodney's clutches.

Shared cast members[]

The film features Fredro Starr and Hassan Johnson as members of Strike's drug dealing crew. Both actors played members of the Barksdale Organization in The Wire - Starr featured as enforcer Bird and Johnson played Wee-Bey.
